I have been a software developer for about 20 years. Many platforms and operating systems. I have done some embedded work professionally, including research in control systems for robots.
I am interested in working on some smaller embedded projects. Microprocessors. CAN. Digital control on cheap, small systems.
I have two degrees in EE, but have worked almost totally in software and applied mathematics. As a hobby/second career, I'd like to combine the two and work on systems with embedded software control. I'm very experienced in software development, primarily in non-Windows environments. I have not had the opportunity to do much hardware.
I have a (temporarily?) non-working electric car. I'd like to get it running again. Some simple plans I had for it were to develop a low-cost amp-hour counter to monitor state of charge and operational efficiency of the car. I had a dream of developing computerized modular battery charging systems. Each battery module has a microprocessor controlled small charger, which is monitored for health and status by a master controller. Although such systems never took off for Lead-Acid battery packs, they seem to be standard in new Lithium Polymer/Ion battery systems for cars and motorcycles.
We have an inactive domain for electric vehicle enthusiasts in the albuquerque area. Take a look at http://abqev.org

I'm sure people in this forum would be interested in electric vehicles. Perhaps a more general local forum like this is a better way to trade ideas about electric vehicles.
